THOMPSON ACHIEVES PLATINUM PLUS INSURANCE STATUS
Markel Insurance (Canada’s largest trucking insurer) recently recognized Thompson’s longstanding commitment
to road safety and continuous improvement, with their prestigious Platinum Plus Status. Silvy Wright (President
and CEO of Markel Insurance Company of Canada) announced that when compared to over 1,000 Canadian fleets,
Thompson’s road safety now ranks in the top 5%.
“We’re very proud to receive this recognition for our constant focus on safety” said Steve Ouellette, Thompson’s
Fleet and Safety Manager. “Our fleet is comprised of a diverse mix of vehicles (Cargo/Sprinter Vans, Straight
Trucks and Tractor Trailers), thus to maintain our safety standards we hire only the top rated drivers, start them
off with a comprehensive in-house orientation program, then schedule regular face-to-face driver training meetings.
Clearly, our driver training efforts have paid off.”

THOMPSON'S SPRINTER VAN FLEET GROWING
To better serve their customers, Thompson manages a versatile fleet of vehicles; Cargo/Sprinter Vans, Straight Trucks and
Tractor Trailers. The Sprinter Van segment continues to grow in size, due to unique capacity of this non-commercial vehicle.
Specifically, compared to a Cargo Van, the Sprinter offers more capacity; height, length and weight (see photo below).
“We’ve had good success with commercially certified drivers (DZ & AZ license), who purchase a new Sprinter Van” says Mark Bortolotti,
Thompson’s Recruiting Manager. “Sprinter Owner Operators can generate over $100,000 annually, coupled with their low maintenance
costs and ~25MPG, they pocket a higher percentage of their income than the big rigs.”
In an effort to assist Owner Operators, Thompson has negotiated a fleet discount with Mercedes Benz Financial.
Anyone interested in more information on becoming a Sprinter Van Owner Operator should call Mark at (800) 265-7332 #249.
Mandatory ACE Electronic Manifest - We are ready!
Thompson Emergency Freight has been ACE approved and successfully filing E-Manifests since May 2006.
What is ACE?
The Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is part of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection
(CBP) modernization effort to expand the use of state-of-the art technology and increase
information sharing among government agencies. May 24,2007 is the date for informed compliance
for most of the U.S.-Canada borders, ports of Detroit, Port Huron as well as Buffalo are in this release.
What are the Requirements?
Carriers are required to send manifests electronically 30-minutes before the truck reaches
the border for FAST shipments and 1-hour for E-manifests, in order to speed up processing
time at the port. CBP officers will have entry and manifest data before arrival,
enabling the carrier to move legitimate trade across the border faster.
How does this affect your freight?
Non-compliant carriers will be turned back at the border with their cargo, or
delayed at the border until CBP receives the cargo information electronically
and will also face heavy monetary penalties.

Thompson Emergency is devoted to helping others in our community.
We kept a Christmas tradition alive this year by sponsoring needy families through
the Windsor Downtown Mission. Now, in it's 10th season, this years program benefited
a family of four and three elderly women. Management matched donations by employees,
and a significant discount offered by a local retailer made it all possible. In addition,
our yearly Food Drive was a huge success, all canned goods and non-perishable items
donated to the Windsor Downtown Mission.
